Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains what StepMatches collects, why, and the choices you have. We try to keep it short and plain.
What we collect
- Account info — email, password (hashed), and any OAuth identifier (Apple, Google) you sign up with.
- Profile info — what you put in your profile: name, age, photos, dance styles, intentions, bio.
- Location — only if you grant the permission. We store coarse coordinates to compute approximate distance to other dancers. We never expose your exact location to any other user.
- Messages — the content of messages you send in chat threads, so they reach the other person.
- Reports and blocks — reports filed against another user (so our safety team can review), and the list of users you’ve blocked (so we can keep them out of your feed).
- Technical info — device type, app version, crash logs, and basic analytics about which screens are used.
What we don’t collect
We don’t collect contact lists, browsing history outside the app, biometric data, or precise location in the background.
How we use it
- To match you with other dancers and run the app.
- To keep the community safe — review reports, enforce blocks, investigate abuse.
- To diagnose crashes and improve the product.
- To send transactional emails (sign-in, password reset).
Who we share with
Other StepMatches users see what you put in your profile and what you send in chat. Otherwise we share data only with:
- Service providers who run our infrastructure (Supabase for storage, Expo + Apple/Google for delivery, error tracking).
- Law enforcement, when legally required.
We do not sell or rent your personal data.
How long we keep it
Until you delete your account. Deletion removes your profile, photos, messages, matches, and personal records from active systems. Limited backups are retained for up to 30 days.
Your rights
You can edit your profile from the app, delete your account from Settings (see Delete your account for step-by-step instructions and an email-based path if you can’t sign in), or email us to request export or correction of your data.
Children
StepMatches is for adults 18 and older. We don’t knowingly collect data from anyone younger.
Changes
If we change this policy materially, we’ll tell you in-app before the change takes effect.
